Automatic car wash machines are generally divided into: contactless automatic car wash machines and brush-type fully automatic car wash machines.
Contactless machines are actually semi-automatic because they require manual assistance in the cleaning process, and the cleanliness is not very high—after all, high-pressure water is certainly not as thorough as brush cleaning. However, their machine structure is simple, and the investment is relatively small.
Brush-type fully automatic car wash machines are further divided into two main categories based on the type of moving body: reciprocating car wash machines and tunnel car wash machines. During driving, friction with the air causes dust to adhere to the car paint surface, forming a film over time. This film can cause continuous damage to the paint, and high-pressure water is unlikely to remove it. Car wash machines with brushes can evenly remove this film. Modern brushes are made of high-composite materials, so the damage to the paint is negligible, even considering that manual car washing involves the friction of microscopic hard particles from towels against the paint. Regarding controllers: domestic car wash machines generally use PLC technology, while imported ones use CPU (microcontroller) technology. Opinions on these two technologies are currently mixed, so we will not comment further. PLCs primarily rely on current sensing technology, using brushes to sense the shape of the car body. CPU technology relies on computer photoelectric sensors, allowing the car wash machine to perform a comprehensive scan of the car, offering relatively higher safety performance.
Tunnel car wash machines – with an installation length requirement of around 26cm – are more suitable for locations with high daily car wash volume, such as gas stations, open spaces, and residential properties. Meanwhile, its economic benefits are also the most significant. Car washes typically take 1.5-3 minutes per machine and can wash 2-3 cars simultaneously, greatly increasing work efficiency. Drivers don't need to wait in line for long, providing customers with a better experience.
Reciprocating car wash machines – typically 10-12 meters long – are more suitable for individual car detailing shops and small gas stations with relatively small spaces. They wash one car at a time, taking 2-4 minutes per machine. These machines have higher requirements for the frame (generally, the error cannot exceed 2 mm) because the machine's path must be level, thus requiring strict manufacturing processes from the manufacturer.
Both types of machines require a relatively large investment and have specific site requirements. Investing in automatic car wash machines not only brings economic benefits from the machine itself, but also allows for the sale of more related products as customer traffic increases. For example, gas stations can sell more fuel, and car detailing shops can sell more car parts and related detailing services.
Regarding purchasing and investing, the pros and cons should be weighed based on the available space and daily car wash volume. Neither of the two types of machines is inherently better or worse. If space is ample, a tunnel-type machine will definitely yield more substantial profits and provide customers with a more premium car wash experience. If space is limited, choose a reciprocating machine; the washing efficiency is just as fast. Lower investment yields faster returns but lower profits, while higher investment results in slower returns but higher profits.
